Sooner or later, when you start building with tools like Lovable, v0, Bolt, or Replit, you’ll probably want to add Cursor (or Windsurf, VSCode + Copilot) into your toolbox.
I’ve been experimenting with this combination for a while now, and the two really complement each other. Here’s how I think about when to use which.
Note: When I say Lovable, I mean most AI prototyping tools — v0, Bolt, Replit, etc.

Effortless setup — No fiddling with packages or configs. You can jump straight into solving user problems instead of worrying about technical plumbing.
Better out-of-the-box UX — Cursor works the best with precise, targeted prompts. Lovable, on the other hand, lets your imagination run wild. You can explore with broad prompts and still get sleek, usable design output because the models are tuned for UX.
Instant share links — One click and you’ve got a live app link. No need to set up hosting or wrestle with Vercel/Netlify for deployments.
For me, this makes Lovable the perfect starting point for new projects — quick, playful, and surprisingly polished right out of the box.
Why add Cursor (or Windsurf)
Cost-efficiency — Lovable is already a bargain compared to developer time (the value you get for $20/month is wild). But Cursor is even cheaper, especially for quick experiments or small optimisations.
More control on larger projects — Lovable and v0 sometimes “decide” things you didn’t ask for. Cursor gives you precision and stability with bigger codebases.
Direct code access — If you’re comfortable editing code directly, Cursor is far easier than Lovable’s built-in dev tools.
Scalable collaboration — With GitHub as the hub, teams can use their tool of choice. Designers, engineers, and AI-tinkerers can all contribute without friction.
So while Lovable gets you up and running fast, Cursor is where you gain precision, scalability, and deeper control.
The workflow I use
The beauty is that Lovable integrates both ways with IDEs — so you can move projects seamlessly between them.
Here’s my usual flow:
👉 Start initiatives in Lovable (apps, websites, prototypes)
👉 Polish them to production level in Cursor
👉 Jump back into Lovable to add new pages or features quickly
This back-and-forth keeps momentum high without sacrificing quality.
How to connect Lovable and Cursor
If you want to try this workflow, here’s the setup:
Sync your Lovable project to GitHub. This creates a new repository.
Connect Cursor to GitHub.
In Cursor, choose how you want to work:
Clone repo → local copy on your computer (best for continuous work offline).
SSH connection → edit directly on remote (best for quick changes, saves disk space).
Select your repo and start prompting changes in Cursor — just like in Lovable.
To preview, simply type: “Hey Cursor, run my app”. Cursor runs all the commands, installs missing packages, and fixes errors for you.
Commit + sync your changes to GitHub → they’ll appear back in your Lovable project.
Hit Publish in Lovable to redeploy.
Why this matters
Thanks to AI, we no longer need to memorise npm commands or sweat over cryptic terminal errors. Cursor smooths out the code side, while Lovable makes app creation almost as simple as describing your idea in plain language.
This workflow gives me the best of both worlds: speed, playfulness, and abstraction when I need it — plus control, scalability, and production-readiness when it matters.
